Visitors to the next Pacific Sail Expo can look forward to some new highlights at the show, scheduled April 17-21 at Jack London Square in Oakland, Calif.
New events planned for the 2002 Expo include a classic boats presence sponsored by the Bay Area chapter of the Master Mariners Benevolent Association, a regatta to be hosted by the Bay Area Multihull Association, and an activities area for children with youth sailing events being spearheaded by Ward Latimer of America True.
The Expo also will feature two new seminars. One is a panel discussion on single-handed sailing and ocean racing, featuring Brad Van Liew, the only American to finish the 27,000-mile Around Alone Competition in 1998-1999. The other is Catamaran Cruising, presented by Richard Spindler.
Other confirmed events for the Expo include: Galley Essentials, sponsored by John Neal and Amanda Swan Neal of Blue Water Sailing, Storm Survival Tactics and Preparing for Blue Water Cruises; the first "I've Been Around" reunion party, sponsored by Latitude 38, for all West Coasters who have either circumnavigated by sail or have a desire to; and the Discover Sailing Pavilion.
The keynote presentation of the 2002 Strategies for Success Program will be held for trade members April 17. It will be a half-day presentation by Steve Miller, designed to help educate the sailing trade on how to get the most out of boat shows.
